Apple Settles Antennagate Lawsuit of the Day: Two years after “Antennagate,” the controversy over a problem with the iPhone 4′s exterior antenna that caused reception to worsen if the phone was held a certain way, Apple has settled a class action lawsuit filed by dissatisfied iPhone 4 owners.
As a result of the settlement, anyone who purchased an iPhone 4 will have their pick of $15 or a free bumper case — the same case Apple initially gave away as a fix for the reception issue.
Although $15 doesn’t sound like much, the class action covered 25 million iPhone owners, so it will end up costing Apple a substantial amount of money. (Of course, “substantial” is relative for a company sitting on $98 billion in cash.)
Apple is required to email all eligible customers about the settlement by the end of April.
