QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Picking out this outfit…OK girls, I get it” — Caitlyn Jenner on why the red carpet is harder than the decathlon. She accepted the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPYs last night.

THINGS FEELING THE PRESSURE

OBAMA

THE STORY

Yesterday, President Obama challenged Congress to a game of ‘say yes to the Iran nuclear dress.’

WHAT’S HIS CASE?

He says the Iran nuclear deal — which Iran, the US, and five other world powers shook on earlier this week — is the best way to avoid a nuclear arms race and war in the Middle East. He also called it a “historic chance” at a safer world. The deal limits the country’s much-stressed about nuclear program for 10 years in exchange for billions of dollars in sanctions relief. But skeptics, includinRepublicans , Israel, and some staunch Israel supporters in Congress, say the deal isn’t harsh enough on Iran.

Congress has 60 days to decide whether or not to make the deal official. But when it’s all said and done, Obama has veto power. And he made it clear that he’s not afraid to use it. Nice to see everyone is getting along again.

GREECE

THE STORY

Just days after Greece agreed to a new bailout deal, the country’s parliament made it official by voting ‘yes’ to more austerity.

10 SECONDS. REMIND ME.

Greek is broke. The country owes billions in debts that it can’t pay. Last week, Greece and its lenders cut a deal: more bailout dollars for more austerity (the same tax hikes and public sector job cuts Greeks have seen attached to past bailouts…only harsher). But a deal’s not a deal until the fat lady sings, and in this case, the fat lady is Greece’s parliament.

SO IS THIS VOTE GOOD FOR GREECE?

Depends who you ask. Greeks hate austerity, since they think it’s to blame for the country’s rising unemployment and poverty rates. Which is why, earlier this year, they voted for a new prime minister who promised ‘no more austerity.’ And then this deal happened. Cue violent protests in Athens yesterday. And  some Greek officials resigning so they wouldn’t have to cast a vote. Even Greece’s PM said he “doesn’t believe” in the bailout deal. Inspiring.

Meanwhile, the IMF - one of Greece’s top lenders - cheered everyone up and said that Greece probably won’t ever be able pay back all the money it owes. Yayyyyy.

REPEAT AFTER ME...

WHAT PEOPLE ARE WATCHING…

Former President George HW Bush41 broke a bone in his neck last night when he took a fall at his house in Maine. His spokesman said the injury was “not life-threatening,” and that his stay at a local hospital would be short. Last month, he turned 91. You might remember his 90th birthday…he celebrated by jumping out of a plane.

WHAT TO SAY TO YOUR FRIEND WHO CAN’T SLEEP BECAUSE OF “BLOODLINE”...

Join the club. Yesterday, Netflix’s earnings came out. And you are not alone in your binging habit. The streaming service added more than three million new subscribers. Shares in the company went way up. The ‘Flix said it will start spending a lot more next year on things like original shows...and movies. Necessary, since it’s not the only streaming service in the game (cough, Amazon, cough). Speaking of which, the ‘Zon’s  “Prime Day” sales yesterday – advertised as ‘bigger than Black Friday’ — made people wake up at 3AM for deals. And then made them tweet #gobacktosleep. Some products sold out in seconds, making customers angry before having their coffee. But Amazon was sure to give customers deals on the fancy tech stuff they’ve been wanting… like VHS rewinders and electric pencil sharpeners.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT…

Planned Parenthood. Earlier this week, an anti-abortion group released a video that shows two people talking to a top official at Planned Parenthood. The anti-abortion group says the video reveals that Planned Parenthood is illegally selling organs from aborted fetuses for a profit. The people in the video were actors paid by the anti-abortion group, and the official reportedly didn’t know she was being filmed.  Planned Parenthood says the accusations are “flat-out untrue,” and that the official is talking about a legal and elective program that donates tissue for medical research. The video has more than a million views on YouTube and now Congress is joining the debate.

WHAT TO SAY TO YOUR BOSS WHO JUST HAD A BABY...

IBM is milking that. Literally. The company recently realized that business trips and breastfeeding don’t go hand-in-hand. So it’s trying to make life easier for working moms by paying to ship breastmilk home to their babies. This is the first program of its kind, and the company even plans to create an app to help coordinate pickup. IBM’s milkshake brings all the moms to the computer yard.

WHAT TO SAY TO YOUR CO-WORKER WHO HAS A THESAURUS ON HER DESK...

What’s a synonym for ‘allegations against Bill Cosby?’ President Obama has an idea.

THING TO KNOW

Jade Helm 15: The name of a military training exercise that began yesterday. Or, if you ask some very freaked out Texans, it’s the name of a US military plot to take over the state.
