Skimm’d after our birthday party. Keep celebrating to the tune of this.
QUOTE OF THE DAY

“It’s not normal” – President Obama, on the high number of young Americans in prison. He’s been pushing for reforms to the criminal justice system. And yesterday, he became the first prez to go behind federal bars. As a visitor.

DAS BOOT?

THE STORY

Germany’s finance minister doesn’t want Greece to sit with his country anymore.

PARDON?

Germany is the eurozone’s most politically powerful country. And yesterday, its finance minister said Greece might be better off leaving the eurozone. Helpful. He said that Greece’s debt is way too high (thank you, Sherlock) and that debt doesn’t magically go away. Not encouraging, especially since Greece’s creditors — including the eurozone — just pushed the country to agree on new austerity measures (think tax hikes, pension cuts that Greeks were not into) in exchange for another bailout. And those same creditors are still giving Greece the side-eye. Meanwhile,  anti-austerity riots broke out in Athens.

Nobody’s pushing Greece out of the eurozone, and the bailout deal is moving forward. But this is Germany’s finance minister sounding the alarm that a “Grexit” might be better for the country, and the eurozone, in the long run.

REPEAT AFTER ME...

WHAT PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT...

James Holmes. Yesterday, he was found guilty of murdering 12 people and wounding 70 others in a Colorado movie theater. Three years ago, he snuck into a showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” and opened fire. He later pleaded insanity. Now, he faces either life in prison or the death penalty.

WHAT TO SAY TO YOUR FRIEND WHO REFUSES TO TAKE THE SUBWAY…

Might need to curb that Uber habit soon. Yesterday, Uber hit a bump in the road…again.  A California judge ruled that Uber didn’t give the state its yearly homework. Think: data on who they give rides to and where. Uber’s options? Pay a fine or stop driving customers around. Uber says it’s already given the state as much info as it needs, thank you very much. And that more info could compromise customer privacy. The company says it will appeal. But if the ruling stands, Jeb Bush might need to find another ride

WHAT PEOPLE ARE HORRIFIED BY...

shooting in Chattanooga, TN. Yesterday, a gunman killed four Marines at a military facility there. The gunman first went to a military recruiting center and shot at glass doors. Then he went to a nearby naval reserve center and shot and killed the Marines. The suspect was also killed, and is being investigated for possible ties to terrorist groups.

WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOU FIND OUT “WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER” IS BACK…

And in other binge-watching news...”Game of Thrones” owned the Emmy nominations. The show, also known as your Sunday night addiction, earned 24 nominations. So apparently that nude walk of shame  was well received. And this year’s Emmy night might make history - Viola Davis or Taraji P. Henson could be the first African American woman to take home lead actress in a drama. Another big winner? StreamingNetflix and Amazon are still crushing it. You’ll have to wait until September to see who wins what and whether host Andy Samberg brings his… in a box.

WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOUR CO-WORKER SAYS IT’S HOT OUT...

Shocker of the year. Just like TLC canceling “19 Kids and Counting.”

THING TO KNOW

Health goth: Not a Lululemon enthusiast. The person at the gym pumping iron to Nine Inch Nails. Wearing all black errthang.

SKIMM SHARE

Thanks to everyone for getting into our 3rd birthday yesterday! Big congrats to yesterday’s winner Katie Karlberg (Boston, MA). She shared A LOT, so she gets $100 to Starbucks, $200 to Uber, AND $300 to the workout spot of her choice.

Good things can happen to those who share. This is how you share.
