HBO’s cold winds are rising and that can only mean one thing: the second season of Games of Thrones is just around the corner.
With the series’ April 1 premiere drawing near, HBO has released the new season’s most explicit trailer to date.
Narrated by the scheming eunuch, Varys (Conleth Hill), the minute-long clip examines many of the conflicts set to boil over in the upcoming season.
The recently crowned King Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) continues to show his cruelty by threatening to kill Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) on front of his court; a clothed and dragon-less Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) makes her own claim to the throne; and Tyrion “The Imp” Lannister (Emmy and Golden Globe winner Peter Dinklage) prepares to take control as the King’s Hand, explaining that he understands how “the game is played.”
And lest we forget last year’s shocking death of hero Ned Stark (Sean Bean), young Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) reminds viewers, “Anyone can be killed.”
The hit show is based on the fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire, by author George R.R. Martin.
