Filipino American origins of the 1965 farmworker grape strike

Fifty years ago, 1,500 Filipino American farmworkers launched the five-year Delano Grape Strike and thus helped catalyze the modern farmworkers' movement. Their key role in the strike has been largely "overlooked and obscured," writes Professor Catherine Ceniza Choy on the Berkeley Blog.


Tribal elder brings water history to life for students

In a course on western water history, Paiute tribal elder Harry Williams shares his knowledge of ancient ditches in California's Owens Valley, site of pivotal, early water wars. Students' research "will help us fight for the water rights of our people," he says.
